Henry is tired of all the studying he has to do at school, especially history. He always seems to have new set of names and dates to learn and is wondering what's the point of all that stuff anyhow. Ranger Bill suggests that he needs a new shot of life in his lessons and explains to him how he might end up in a job where he might need all them facts. Stumpy explains to him why it's important to learn when a thing took place and what took place first so that you can learn why a thing happened and make sure it never happens again. It isn't so much the historical happenings but what we can learn from them. Stumpy suggests to make it interesting Henry try putting himself in to the picture. Then that night in bed Henry dreams that he's part of a wagon train on the Oregon Trail and he saves them from an attack by Indians by getting them safely across the river.
