There are certain phrases which we Americans have made a part of our daily speech. Phrases which, because of their constant use, have acquired an aura of truth about them. Phrases like benevolent dictator and born criminal. But there really is no such thing as a 'born criminal'. A child might be born to a pair of the most hardened criminals, but still could grow up to become anything.
