One kidney machine to serve two emergencies, which does one save first? The 11 year-old girl dark haunting eyes who probably has the strength in her own battles to recover or the weak old man with a possible contribution left to make to society who may not make it anyway. 70-year-old Dr Steven Campion was a brilliant teacher, and scientist who were responsible for pioneering the artificial kidney machine, which he himself needs now. Before he fell ill he was working in a complex field in which a breakthrough could save thousands of lives. But the little girl has her whole life ahead of her and Dr Campion is happy to meet one person who has been saved by his research.
