For almost three centuries, the largest and most respected diamond of antiquity has been lost, and no trace of it has been found. The Great Mogul diamond was last known to be in the possession of the Mogul Emperor, Shah Aurangzeb, who in the 17th century decided to have the rough diamond cut and polished, but after entrusting the diamond to a master craftsman, it disappears.
