Lum has hired Grandpappy Spiers as his secretary to handle the amount of telegrams he's receiving. He's going to pay him fifty cents a day and Abner said he'd do it for that sum! However Lum has figured that he was paying him a dollar fifty cents some days anyway and now by paying him regular he'll be saving money.
