In journalism, truth is held up as a standard, but truth is a slippery word. Presumably, all reporters try to be truthful, in everything they write. But the word itself is often taken for granted, unless the story is unusually controversial, covering a social tea, or a local fundraising drive for example, reporters are likely to think of themselves striving more for accuracy than truth. What is the difference? We could say accuracy means getting the facts straight. But truth means getting the facts. We are in the newsroom of a paper in a large Texas city...
