Goodbye Benjamin Flack

Guthrie Flack took no pleasure in his luncheon meeting with his attorney, Ramsay Powell, in the expensive restaurant which had been his favorite eating place for many years. He wondered if they would still accept his signature on the check. He was stone broke, and everyone knew it. All of his charge accounts had been cancelled, and his bank had warned him of the dire consequences of writing any more rubber checks. In short, Guthrie Flack had discovered that life was anything but pleasant. How different it had been, he thought, just a few short months before. He worked his way through the diners, ignoring the cold stare of the maitre d'hotel, towards the table occupied by Ramsay Powell.
