Among America’s well known men are many who came from Europe to try their fortunes and make their homes in this land of opportunity. One of the most appealing and important of these was a German-Swiss named John A. Sutter. Although he is known chiefly because gold was discovered on his California property Sutter’s life was actually spent as a pioneer, a homemaker and a farmer.
