The Glass Key was written by Dashiell Hammett, the creator of the Thin Man, and is a story of the underworld during the prohibition period. Following the story Orson Welles talks to Warden Laws from Sing Sing Prison who tells us that
in the 12 months of depression beginning in the late months of 1937 Sing Sing received its greatest number of first time offenders in its history.
