Today's Cavalcade is dedicated to the women of America. There was once a time when the thought of women helping during wartime was new and strange and startling. In the first year of the war between the North and the South, there was a woman named Mary Bickerdyke, who became the first American woman war volunteer, and led other women volunteers during the Civil War.
