A desperate gunman, ambushed by the police, escaped tonight after forcing his partner to run into a hail of police bullets. Police cornered Ted Carney and Mitchell Harper as the two were breaking into a mid-town jewellery store. Ordered to surrender, Carney put the gun in Harper's back and forced Harper to run from their hiding place, thus diverting the police gunfire for the few seconds necessary to give Carney his chance to getaway...
