As we look in on the little community of Pine Ridge we find Lum sitting leisurely at his breakfast table and Abner has just come in to get him to come to the Fourth July picnic but Abner has decided that he's not going. It's probably just as well as Abner has invited every man and his dog to travel to the picnic ground in their car.
