The play you are about to hear is Gielgud's first American broadcast and was written by himself and commander Steven King Hall. When Sir Henry Hartfield's party of three adults and four children are kidnapped by Chinese bandits the British refuse to pay their ransom demand. The Chinese Warlord decrees that four of the seven must die and that they themselves must choose who is to die while watched on by the bandits.
