Fort Gurney

As the Lone Ranger and Tonto reined up on the top of a hill, they could see a band of Indians half way down the slope. They were shooting at someone further below - four soldiers - and the Indians had them pinned down. The duo took cover, and aimed their pistols in order to protect the soldiers. As soon as they opened fire, the Indians realized they had no protection from the bullets, leaped on their horses and raced on down the boulder strewn slope back towards their camp. The Lone Ranger and Tonto then continued to the base of the hill, where they saw two of the soldiers were still lying on the ground - a third bent over them. The fourth, a young lieutenant, was standing erect waving a greeting, but stopped when he saw the Lone Ranger's mask... The Lone Ranger explained to the soldier a little about the braves who had attacked - they used to be in Thunder Cloud's tribe, but had followed Black Eagle when he had broken away from his father's tribe. They were renegades, camped out in the hills, and the Lone Ranger wanted to know when the troops at Fort Gurney might be going after them. But it seemed Fort Gurney was having a power struggle all of its own...
