Sergeant Preston and King were on the trail in territory usually patrolled by Corporal Lacey. Troubled by discrepancies in the Corporal's latest report, Inspector Maynard had sent Preston and King from headquarters with instructions to find Lacey. Though the territory was unfamiliar, Preston's inquiries had satisfied him that he was on the right track in his search for the young Corporal.
