Jim calls in to see Dr Christian about his 24 year old son Howard who was born in the last war when Jim was newly married to Martha and full of patriotism along with all his friends. They all joined up in the same company and only Jim survived. He returned from the war having lost his friends to war and his wife through a heart attack and Howard was all he had. He now feared that he was going to lose his only son Howard in the current war and offered Dr Christian all his life savings to pronounce his son unfit for war.
