The questioning by the Hong Kong police was brief. The suspect's guilt was clear, but even though conviction was a certainty, the motive and circumstances behind the crime were considerably more complex. It had started more than a week ago at a fashionable gathering across the city. A swank social affair with smartly dressed ladies in evening gowns and jewels and gentlemen in dinner jackets. And the precise moment might have been when most of the guests adjourned to the library to listen to a well known voice and stared at the man who spoke.
