Eric Lindley is a great pianist who is suspicious of his wife's love for him. Thinking Nora has gone to David Warren, Eric in a fit of jealous fury has smashed his fist against David's door severing a nerve in his hand and paralysing his fingers. He refuses to ever play the piano again even though surgeon, David, tells him his hand is now perfectly fine. It is only when he realises how much his wife loves him and how him not playing the piano has affected her to the very soul that he plays again.
