Although Fanny Kemble is known to most of us as the great English actress of Covent Garden Theater in London she was also distinguished a s a playwright, poet and novelist. Her life spanned almost the whole of the nineteenth century (27 November 1809 – 15 January 1893) and she one of the most loved and respected women of the Victorian era. In her old age her most intimate acquaintance was the American writer Henry James then a young man living in Switzerland.
