Sergeant Preston is sent to the far north to bring an Eskimo who has killed a white man to justice. With his dog King and his translator it took two months to get to the Eskimo village. When Sergeant Preston falls in to a crevasse and suffers an injury, it is the very Eskimo he has come to arrest who saves him despite the fact that he does not like white men. The reason he saved him is because he liked King and King also senses the good in Oketuk.
