Seeking a clue as to the whereabouts of Nayland Smith who was entrapped by agents of the Sifan, Dr Petrie and Detective Sergeant Fletcher have gone to the Jor Shop a river front den patronized by Asiatic. While there they hear the dragging step of the man with the limp and later in a coffin like box they discover Nayland Smith. With the help of the police Smith is rescued and the brass chest stolen by agents of the Sifan is recovered.
