When Bill and Cathy Collier lose their nine year old son Tommy, Cathy finds it hard to let go and leaves his room exactly how it was with all his toys in. They are unable to have any more children of their own but Bill would like for him and Cathy to adopt a child. Bill approaches the local home for orphan boys and hopes that Cathy will come round to the idea of adopting a child but she is unable to feel the way that Bill does.
