It was said that the single most pernicious influence on the growing English boy was the shocking behaviour portrayed in the American cinematograph. To which Harry Lime would have added a hearty Amen except that he was forced to admit that soon afterwards the luckiest thing to happen to him was the same influence of the American cinematograph on one growing English boy. Both of these statements were proven for him in an adventure which he called the Earl on Troubled Waters.
