Those of us who know war worker Chester A. Riley know that his life consists of emotional ups and downs. Last week for example after much effort Riley finally got rid of his wife's uncle Baxter, his unwelcome house guest for the last two years. But no sooner did the door close on uncle Baxter in came Baxter's brother, uncle Buckley! A week has passed and uncle Buckley is still there and boy is Riley down. When uncle Buckley is chased by a pack of ferocious dogs, he declares he will have the dog catcher of the town removed from office. However Chester likes the dog catcher Mr Johnson and wagers Buckley five bucks he doesn't know the mayor well enough to get Mr Johnson fired. In trying to save Mr Johnson's job, Riley ends up being the one to get him fired for political reasons! Riley finds himself getting involved in politics in order to get Mr Johnson his job back!
