There was no sign of the flagship Pluto at the rendezvous but it was not long before the Caligula moored up from and Captain Bolton signalled his invitation to Hornblower to dine with him. And now they must sit and wait for Sir Percy Layton and the Flagship. They decide that one of them and who must push Northward and harri the coast by the spin of a guinea. Winning the toss was to have far reaching consequences for Hornblower.
