While Lum and Abner were on their way back from the county seat, carefully guarding the huge diamond which Lum bought from a stranger, Grandpappy Spears, who has been running their store, had a rather strange and ominous visitor. Evidently mistaking Grandpappy for Lum, the man was on the trail of a large diamond, which he said bore a curse, and brought tragedy to whoever possessed.
