Joe Adams phoned Pat Novak and said that he was in a hurry and would stop by and pick him up in his car, he said he had a quick job for Novak to do but Novak didn’t believe his explanation. Adams claimed he had lost his keys to his apartment and had had to break in. He was catching a plane to meet a guy in Los Angeles tonight and needed Novak to keep a watch on his place. And Novak was right to be suspicious when two guys with guns turned up especially when they turned out to be police, Detective Hellmann investigating the murder of Van Dyke over a year ago.
