Terry Mason was brought up by his uncle after his parent died in an accident when he was only 12 years old. When he was older he met a girl named Barbara Norton and he hoped they would be married but after two years away from her working on a plantation he returned to New York to find she had married someone else. While drowning his sorrows in a bar he bumps in to old friend Lamont Cranston and his girlfriend Margo Lane. He confides in them that he thinks his uncle and Barbara’s father Dr Norton are working against him as his uncle controls his inheritance and he has learned that they are planning to confine him in Dr Norton’s sanatorium.
