Mrs Baker is an elderly lonely widow who has seen Slate Shannon’s picture in the Darby and Joan Lonely Hearts Club. Mrs Baker tells Slate that her husband was killed in a Texan explosion. She likes the look of Slate and proposes marriage telling him she is well off and could make him happy. But how did Slates picture turn up in the files of a lonely heart club? Then when later Mrs Baker is discovered dead in her hotel room with the photograph of Slate he becomes the prime suspect for her murder.
