Dan Reid, the fourteen year old nephew of the Lone Ranger, had left the camp and had started for the nearby town of Greenville. He had pulled his horse, Victor, down to a walk, and as he neared a bend in the trail, he was startled by a distant scream! It sounded like a woman's scream, and he urged his horse onwards around the bend, where he saw a team hitched to a buckboard, racing across the prairie away from the trail. A woman was pulling frantically on the reins to try and stop the team, to no avail. Dan knew that he could stop the horses if only he could get to them, and raced Victor alongside before jumping from his horse to the lead horse of the team and pulling them up. A short time later, Dan and the lady whose life he had saved - Betty Wilson from the Bar Y ranch - reined up outside the large spread where Betty shared the story with her father, who was an old curmudgeon and cynic - who is astounded to find that Dan doesn't want any kind of reward for helping his daughter.
