Two weeks ago in the vaults of the New York jewel dealers Lamar & Muffett the crystalline diamond, an official gift to the United States from the rajah of Supgun, sparkled under the harsh light of a hanging lamp. A tall man of 45 with iron-grey hair and horn rim glasses, Arthur Lamar bent over the jewel lost in wonder. Suddenly behind him out of the darkness came another figure, swift, silent with upraised arm, a pause and then he knocked him out and stole the diamond…
