Fibber McGee and Molly go down to the bookshop and on the recommendation of the bookseller they buy a murder mystery book called The case of the Cross-Eyed Cat by Ellery Stanley Rinehart. Fibber is completely engrossed in the book. It seems that everyone has read the book and describe it as trash but enjoyable. Alice nearly spills the beans on the story as does Beulah whose fiancé Ira has read the book and then Harlow Wilcox almost reveals the killer. Fibber is trying to enjoy the book without everyone else’s opinion but in the end everything conspires against him getting to the final page of the book!
