Joe Parker of Surety Mutual has contacted Johnny Dollar to attend a party to be given by Dolly McLean, Champagne dream girl dancing darling of the roaring twenties. She had married Barnaby Cronin and as a wedding present he bought her the circle of fire, one of the five most beautiful necklaces in the world made of diamonds and emeralds. Since Barnaby died five years ago it has been lying in a bank vault. And now Dolly has announced that she’s throwing a party for old times sake and will be wearing the half a million-dollar necklace. Surety Mutual carry the insurance and Parker is concerned that with all the champagne flowing everything mixed up and crazy the necklace will be a target.
