Two men who are jealous of Edmond Dantes one for love and one for ambition were responsible for his being sent to perish in prison. While there he meets a fellow prisoner whom upon his death gives him a map to some treasure burried on the island of Monte Cristo. Dantes escapes from prison and with his new found riches reinvents himself as the Count of Monte Cristo and sets out to exact revenge on his former friends who destroyed his life.
