Charles was in bad trouble. Business has been pretty bad since the war. Contracts had run out and so that his wife wouldn’t have to go without he took out another mortgage. He had to pay it from company funds as he didn’t want to dip in to their savings but now the auditors are coming in to examine the books so he asks his wife to get the $18,000 from their safety deposit box. Then his wife Helen confesses that she has lost all their savings gambling and Charles fears that he will go to jail. Charles begins acting strangely and his wife fears that he will go to desperate measure to get the money and she begins to fear for her life…
