The story starts with Lieutenant Joe. G. Travis-Brady lying in a military hospital bed. An older man, Lieutenant Commander Gorham, asks him to tell the story of what happened on his last bombing mission. Joe recounts the terrible story of a crash landing on an unchartered desert island. At first the air crew think they have had a lucky escape when they are greeted by an English speaking man, but things start to take a sinister turn. All is not as it seems and it is not long before they discover the island, and the island's inhabitants, are hiding a strange secret.
