Communism and Christianity

Broadcast: February 14, 1937

This is a very interesting interview between two priests as Father Coughlin is presented with a group of questioned which are planned to develop the difference between Christianity and communism. While Father Coughlin believes in some of the principles of communism he disputes the facts of the good of communism presented to him in argument, and argues the cause of Christianity throughout history against the tyranny of dictatorship.

Father Coughlin is as much opposed to the states dominating the church as he is to the states dictating to the press or the radio. More than any communist he stands for free speech, free press and free pulpit. He asks why communist who pretend to be so factual and erudite hide part of the truth and do not analyse the problems of (Russia's) communist misery in the light of the un-contradictable facts.

The Christian theory is that the governed must be freely governed and that all who rule only rule with the consent of the people. This concept of Government is essential for the preservation of liberty, liberty which must be preserved at all costs.

At the end of this fascinating lecture you will hear some beautiful hymn singing.
