He saw the headlines on the way downtown that morning, “Common Cold Cured” and sure enough there was his picture, Chancy Patrick Coffin. The newspaper ran on deliriously, “Coffin nails lid on common cold,” “No more coffin, Sniffles Sniped.” There was no doubt about it. He’d always said that the man who cured the common cold would be the greatest hero in medical history and if he could have gotten his hands on Dr Chancy Patrick Coffin at that moment he would have torn him limb from limb. And he almost did a half hour later at the laboratory…
