Like most of us Chester A. Riley is in a rut but unlike most of us he doesn’t know it and he’d probably be content to remain in his not too comfortable little rut if something hadn’t occurred a few weeks ago that jarred him out of it and almost changed the whole course of our hero’s hum drum life.
It all began innocently enough, Riley had just come home from work when Peg told him that an old friend of his was going to be dropping in tonight. Riley remembered Benny as the dumbest boy in class who was kept back for three years and he ought to know as for three years he sat next to him! However Benny has turned out to be quite successful and this spurs Riley on to apply for the civil service.
