When the first picture was made between the orange groves of a sleepy little town called Hollywood a latter-day gold rush began. Hollywood became a sprawling brawling boomtown. True to the tradition of the western frontier Hollywood lived violently and a few of its citizens lived and died violently with and sometimes without their boots on. The stakes were high worldwide fame and undreamt of fortunes and the passion that poured on to the silver screen sometimes spilled over in to private lives with lethal results.
