When the door of his office opened Mark Falon didn’t have to turn away from the window to know that it was Harry Cheng coming in for more of the vouchers. It had happened so often during the past five weeks that that sound of Cheng’s shuffling walk was sand paper on Mark’s nerves. So instead of turning he sat for a moment looking out through the gold lettering that spelt Woo Cheng Importing Company on the window, looking down on the grand avenue where they were putting up the first decorations for the Chinese New Year celebrations. Then when he was sure he had enough control to make his approach seem casual he idly spun his chair and faced the little bookkeeper…
