Lee Hip’s a tattooer and Tully made an appointment with him for a tattoo the day before he was due to sail for Formoca. Hip asked Tully if he would take a two inch high golden Buddha and deliver it to his friend. Then Lee Hip received a telephone call which got him so worked up he collapsed with heart attack. The next thing Tully knows is a Chinese lieutenant of the Hong Kong police turns up and escorts him somewhere in a car. Tully thinks this all seems highly irregular.
