Before the story begins there is a feature about the Northrop YB-49 bat-winged, boomerang-shaped "Flying Wing."

It is late afternoon only three hours after  La Pantera's escape with Gail Nolan as her prisoner. La Plantera's abandoned car has been found by the police on a small country road fifteen miles north of the airport. Hop has an idea to try to find her airplane and flies to New City.
