After narrowly escaping being caught away from his post on the graveyard watch by Hurricane, Tracy succeeded in getting the radio operator's cabin. Once there, he quickly told Sparks that the Captain had been murdered, and after some hesitation, Sparks agreed to radio the nearest ship for help. Tracy hastily returned to his post, but unfortunately Sparks was unwise in permitting Hurricane to catch him as he was trying to send out his message - and Hurricane shot him dead in cold blood, also destroying the wireless to prevent any further attempts at contacting the world at large.
