Lily Bishop joins a wagon train to California, led by Michael Fabian and Johnny Trumbo, but on the journey, news of the Gold Rush breaks which scatters the train. When Johnny and Michael finally arrive in California, Lily is rich from her saloon, but there are worse troubles ahead for those who want to make California their own private empire, because California is inching ever closer to statehood.
