Harry Jenkins, a well-to-do writer, came to the Yukon to gather material for a book. He'd heard much of the men who'd rushed to the north country to get rich quick. With a good outfit and sturdy dogs, he set out to see these miners - the lucky ones and the unfortunates. He visited Indian tribes and presented them with gifts - it delighted him to see their faces glow when they saw the great, heavy, gold watch he carried.
