In the last chapter our adventurers located the boarding house where Betty had been living but hen they arrived they were told by Mrs Murphy that she had turned Betty out in to the street because she couldn't pay her board. the sheriff has told Mrs Murphy that unless he locates the little heiress in an hours time he will put the proprietors of the boarding house behind prison bars.
