Edward G Robinson plays the part of Detective Johnny Blake the same part he did in the 1936 Warner Bros screen picture Bullets or Ballots. In the film you also saw another brilliant performance by one of the screen’s best bad men, Humphrey Bogart who likes playing villains and here he resumes the part of Nick 'Bugs' Fenner. Mary Astor takes the part of leading lady Lee Morgan and Otto Kruger displays his genius for the sinister and changes only his first name as he plays the part of racketeer Al Kruger.
