Dr Edward Armistead takes a trip as a paying passenger aboard the Molly Moran a cargo ship bound for Haiti. Pete is the captain and also aboard is his girl Lilly. Boukou is the first shipmate and is obsessed with Lilly. He is from Haiti and practices magic. When Pete falls ill Lilly believes that Boukou has put a curse on him but Dr Armistead tells her it all superstition.
