It's 9:45 on a brisk winter evening in Seacliff, San Francisco. Upstairs at Jack Barbour's house across the hedge from the Barbour family home, the six little girls have been sound asleep for a good hour now. Downstairs in the living room, Betty is busy knitting an Argyle sock, talking away to Jack, who she isn't aware is sleeping.
